Box Soccer may be one of the most innovative (and coolest) things you’ve never heard of. And here at Sporting Missouri Valley we couldn’t be more excited to be adding Box Soccer to our growing list of soccer programs. To top it all off, Sporting MV is the only club licensed in the Midwest to use the Box Soccer unique methodology to deliver progressive training sessions. So what is Box Soccer?
“Box Soccer was developed in Scotland by Ian Cathro in the late 2000s while he was a Youth Team coach at Dundee United. The objective when Box Soccer was created was clear; create a training environment that increases contact time with the ball. A category of exercises that, not only, develop technique but stimulate football’s simple and common scenarios. Every young player needs a variety of training environments to develop the vast array of skills and game intelligence necessary to step towards the professional game – but everyone needs the best start. Box Soccer does exactly this. Every journey has to have the correct starting point. We believe Box Soccer in the perfect foundation for young footballers.”
As a result of the unique single setup structure, there is no time wasted in the training session. Every part of the curriculum is well thought out and progresses with the players participation. These practices are all game related. This means the ball is rolling and the players are active for a minimum of 75% of every hour. This should guarantee every player in the session enjoying over 1000 touches. The Box Soccer sessions and the manner they are delivered will have a direct correlation to the game the player plays.
